D Day + 22: Friday 3 September 2010 - One More Step Along....

...the World I Go - I remember this song from when Romilly was at school; it had some really good words in it, and although I am not remotely religious, it seems to make a lot of sense right now:
Round the corner of the world I turn,
More and more about the world I learn;
Give me courage when the world is rough,
Keep me loving though the world is tough

A pause for thought, if you like....

So today was quite a good day; I met up with the lovely Mr Cane (after the fiasco of yesterday due to my brain freeze) and Mrs Jones our lovely mutual friend.  C came along too, though went off to do a few 'bits'  on his own while the three of us caught up and nattered over lunch.  And very nice it was too, though it is sad that nowadays the thing that keeps us bonded is the employer for which we work.  On the plus side we discovered a lovely new place to eat, which does an amazingly delicious grilled halloumi and tomato melt on granary baguette - which may not seem that exciting to most of you, but when you're a vegetarian, anywhere that does delicious, affordable, meat-free lunch is A1 in my book!
Deb and I went off to do a quick bit of shopping - C went to Church Litten to have a quiet lunch, not fancying trawling round the shops with us!  Having done the shop thing, and as I was chauffeur I asked them if they wanted to go anywhere else, and we ended up going to look at the newly excavated lime kiln in Lime Kiln Shute on the Downs....

It's amazing to think that this former hive of activity has been buried underneath part of the Down for so long; a little bit of Island history uncovered once again - apparently this is one of the last working lime kilns in the country.

Thankfully Mrs Jones is there to stop C coming to any harm by falling or anything; I have discovered that it is far better to be the one behind the camera taking the photos, than actually being in them and hating how you look!!
After this we ventured up onto Brading Down for an ice cream; now I don't usually eat ice cream, I don't like it that much and it always used to play havoc with my sensitive teeth, but recently I've decided to give it another go, and what better way to reintroduce yourself to ice cream than Bill up on Brading Down...so I did, and I have to confess that the Rum and Raising cornet was absolutely lovely - C even diverged from his usual Oriental Ginger, as he had a ginger beer at lunchtime and so was od'd on ginger; Mrs Jones had blackcurrant something or other, and had the slightly posher sugar cone...ooh, get her...

And then home; C got the phone call from Mr Hodgson - Knobbly Knees at the QA in Portsmouth - to say that his case had been discussed this morning with the Island oncologist, the Southampton liver surgeon, and the Portsmouth kidney specialists; there's an A Team of medical professionals!! Or so you'd think...they couldn't reach a decision about what the best course of action is, so have decided to transfer C's case to Southampton for discussion at a case conference next Wednesday morning; more waiting, tick tick tick...and all the time we're sitting here waiting for someone to do something.  Patience is a virtue, we know, but it's being sorely tried at the moment!  So luckily C's brother and his wife are over from Finland for the weekend, which will prove a thankful distraction for us all, plus being a lovely catch up session with them as they haven't been here for a year.  As I'm off to see Les Miserables at the Mayflower tomorrow afternoon C is being taken under the wing of his older siblings for the day, which I'm sure he'll enjoy.  And so will they, looking after the 'nipper'.
So that's today - I'm not sure when tomorrow's blog will be updated, so bear with me!! We have a lot going on this weekend, thankfully....
